PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
The training is built through 3 Levels, to prepare you to practise
as a professional Colour Consultant, using the Colour Affects System
of Applied Colour Psychology. If you already have a qualification
in psychology, you will be entitled to describe yourself a Colour
Psychologist.
Each level consists of 80 hours of intensive tuition: two weeks,
Monday-Friday plus course work. The three levels require a total
of 240 hours of intensive study, plus assignments and practice case
studies between each level. Class numbers are kept small, to ensure
plenty of personal attention for each student, and ongoing monitoring
of each student's progress is maintained by Colour Affects throughout.
The ideal time frame is approximately one year to complete the training,
but Colour Affects is prepared to be flexible, to meet each student's
individual needs.
Level One.
Level One is designed to fulfil two purposes; it can:
- Stand alone, to meet the needs of those who want to deepen their
understanding of colour psychology:
- in order to incorporate it into their existing work - designers,
architects, marketing executives or those engaged in selling interior
design products.
- qualify to practise colour analysis in fashion and beauty.
- or simply for their own personal interest and enlightenment.
-
Constitute the foundation of full professional training, for
those who wish to practise exclusively as a Colour Consultant
or a Colour Psychologist.
The course covers basic colour science and the history of Humanity's
quest to understand colour; colour psychology; colour symbolism
- and the latest scientific discovery, the Colour Affects System,
which is based on the Wright Theory of Colour Psychology & Colour
Harmony.
Upon completion, students will be required to demonstrate that
they can apply the Colour Affects System at a basic level -
- by conducting personality profiling, in order to identify correctly
an individual's personality type, and creating a palette for that
person.
- by classifying colours accurately into the four colour groups.
There will also be a written examination, to confirm that they
have fully grasped the theory. Successful completion, qualifying
a student to progress to Level Two, requires a pass mark of 60%.
Level Two.
Level Two covers application of the System to graphic
design and interior design. Having successfully mastered the basic
application of the Colour Affects System to individuals, students
will learn how to convert any other entity - a brand, a product,
a business, a shop, an office etc. - into a personality type and
create colour palettes for corporate communications and interior
environments.
Students will also study how colour works for other disciplines
- e.g. professional printers - covering the CIELAB Colour Space,
the RGB gamut, the CMYK gamut, the Natural Colour System (which
is the basis of many paint ranges across the world) and the implications
of metamerism, and viewing colours under different lighting conditions;
this ensures that they will not irritate others involved with the
design process by specifying colours that cannot be easily produced.
Again, there will be both practical and written examinations, and
the same requirements will apply: a pass mark of 60% to qualify
for Level Three.
Level Three.
The core objective of Level Three is to achieve deeper
understanding of the psychology of colour. Students will acquire
the skill of interpreting what is being expressed by any person's
stated colour preference (or, indeed, antipathy) in order to create
effective colour palettes for their clients.
They will also learn how, in the corporate world, to carry out
an audit of the messages contained in the colours a client is currently
using for corporate communications, interiors colour schemes etc.
and write an objective report. This will reassure the client of
your competence, and provide the springboard for a new palette.
Level Three equips Colour Affects Colour Consultants to apply objective,
rational criteria to the often fraught decision-making process,
and bring all parties together.
Level Three also includes training in the mechanics of the 'colour
business' - i.e. maintaining proper records, understanding the needs
and requirements of clients, writing a proposal, sales and marketing
techniques, budgeting etc. External experts will deliver some of
that tuition.
On completion of Level Three, the final examinations will test
students on everything they have learned throughout the three levels,
both in writing and in practice.
Accreditation.
Colour Affects is currently being assessed for accreditation
of its professional training by a major international body. Once
accreditation is received, grants and other payment plans will be
more readily available to students.
In 2007, successful graduates will also receive a copy of the revolutionary
new Ultracolour software. Ultracolour is the computerised version
of the Colour Affects System; it will open up many more colours
for consultants to specify for their clients, and help the new consultant
to feel more confident that they are getting it right. (You may
be assured that Colour Affects will not allow anyone to graduate
until they have satisfied us that they will get it right - but realistically,
it is our experience that only time and practice provides the confidence
that new Colour Consultants have in their own ability!)
On completion of the training, graduates will be provided with
the list of approved suppliers for all the materials they will need.
